Vertical Solar and Wind Energy Tower | Power Engineering FYP |

Since most of the present energy demand is met by fossil fuels and nuclear power plants. A small part is met by renewable energy technologies. Among them, the wind and solar power sources have experienced a rapid growth. Both are pollution free sources of abundant power. This paper represents an idea as to how to utilize these sources in best way to produce electricity.

For this project we will be using both resources to produce electricity. A savonius turbine is designed to capture the wind power and transfer it to the charge controller where it will be stabilized and transferred to the battery which will further transfer to the inverter and then to the load. Similarly, solar panel on top of the structure is implemented to extract voltages from sun rays and transfer to the MPPT where it will be stabilized and the same procedure as wind will occur. A switching technique is used to determine which of the sources are much efficient at that particular time. The one that will be producing more voltages will be presented further.

Mechanical Engineering Labs SOPs

As per the comprehensive policies and guidelines issued by the HEC and CIEC, the Department of Mechanical Engineering at DHA Suffa University plans to resume some of its academic activities for students from September 15, 2020. All ME Labs and other facilities have been revamped with special COVID-19 safety protocols. In addition, personal safety of student, faculty and administrative staff will be ensured as per the SOPs envisaged. The SOPs are mandatory and have to be strictly followed. A detailed document with all the mandatory SOPs which include use of masks, hand sanitizers, and social distancing has been shared with members of DSU family including students.

IoT based leaked detection in pipeline using EPANET

Pipelines play vital role in transporting Water, Oil, and Gas over short and long distances. For safe and efficient operation, pipelines need efficient and cost effective Leak Detection Systems as they cover hundreds of kilometers. This project provides cost effective Leak Detection System. Moreover Event-based communication protocol is used to minimize the sensor communication resulting in energy saving. The project includes a prototype of pipeline network of 6 Km, pressure, sprinklers for creating a leak, tank, and reservoir for storage of water. The leak can be created using a Human Machine Interface (HMI) developed with the hybrid simulation environment developed using EPANET, Matlab Assignment and LabVIEW.

The distributed real time data from sensors (edge data) are transmitted to the cloud using the POST-HTTP method and display a real-time graph of pressure-distance. The back-end and front-end programming of API and webpage are made on JavaScript with the help of VSC.

Overview of Vector Control as Applied to AC Machines

It is a matter of great pride for DSU that the Final Year Project of its Electrical Engineering students on Vector Control of AC Machines has secured National Level Ignite – National Technology Fund Funding. At DSU’s Dept. of EE we encourage students to apply their engineering knowledge and skill set to projects having direct industrial relevance and projects that are done in liaison with the industrial sector. In addition to remaining abreast with cutting-edge technology, through these FYPs our students acquire project management skills and the ability to be effective team players, which grooms them for Engineering Management roles in their future professional careers.
