Session on “How to build a Career in Tech” by Mr. Ahmed Ayub, Co-Founder at Airlift

Google Developer Student Club at DHA Suffa University in collaboration with the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development organized a session on How to build a career in tech specifically for Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Data Science students.

Where the Chief Guest and speaker Ahmed Ayub joined us. The Co-Founder at Airlift, which is a Pakistani-based tech startup operating in logistics and quick commerce. The company was launched in 2019 as a decentralized urban mass transit startup that allowed customers to book fixed-rate rides on buses and vans on their network fleet. In 2020, Airlift diversified into last-mile delivery through Airlift Express, delivering essential households in 30 minutes across nine cities in Pakistan, and has also expanded in South Africa delivering food supplies, households supplies, pharmacy, and more.

On this mission to enable self-empowerment in the region, Airlift raised USD 110m+ in venture financing. The session was focused on helping students understand the journey of a Software engineer in the corporate tech industry vs a startup. The Story of first made in Pakistan tech company airlift was also emphasized proving the khudi philosophy of Iqbal to build our products for ourselves first, so we dont have to import all the goods but become exporters of our tech product to the world, where the session was joined by Faculty Advisor Eram Abbasi and the distinguished Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas where he emphasized skill-based learning to students and become job providers of the future and appreciated the efforts of the core team of GDSC and CEID department for organizing the session.

Session by “The Center for International Strategic Studies Sind (CISSS)”

The Center for International Strategic Studies Sind (CISSS) conducted an outreach session exclusively for the students of International Relations at DHA Suffa University on 20th January, 2022.

Ambassador (R) Qazi Khalilullah (Executive Director) and Mr. Aftab Hussain (Director Research) delivered a talk on Pakistan’s Strategic Program, strategic issues in the region, aims and objectives of CISSS and prospects and opportunities of academic and research collaboration with DSU.

The honorable guests were warmly welcomed by Pro VC Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas, whereas, Dean MSS  Dr. Bashir Ahmad, Program Manager IR Ms. Sidra Ahmed and the esteemed faculty of IR appreciated the initiative taken by CISSS for providing a platform for our students interested in research and policy-making.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saeed Minhas concluded the session with thank you note and expressed his wish for a long term association and collaboration between IR Department and CISSS.

Exchange of shields and refreshment served at the end of the session. Both faculty and students found the talk extremely informative and interesting.

Session on “Investigative Reporting”

A talk was held at DHA Suffa University on “Investigative Reporting” in the Auditorium on January 18th, 2022.  The seminar was attended by DSU faculty, and students.

Ms Ariba Shahid was the keynote speaker at the event. She is a business and economics journalist with two years of experience covering the State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Stock Exchange, Startups, Macroeconomic
Developments, and FMCGs. She is a recipient of an Agahi Award in 2021 for the Pakistan – India Relations Category. She tweets as @aribashahid. In her free time, she is often found reminding Pakistani politicians that the stock market isn’t an accurate indicator of the economy. Her articles can be read at Profit Magazine by Pakistan Today, and she has been featured on BBC News, PTV World, Dawn, and Channel 5. She also works on Deal Street
Asia as a contributor as of Jan 1.

Ms. Shahid enlightened the audience on her own personal experience as an Investigative Reporter, and highlighted the best and most challenging aspects of her profession.  The talk was followed by an interesting question answer session which covered interesting topics including citizen reporting, and how journalism had changed with social media.

Both faculty and students found the session to be extremely informative and interesting.

 

Career Guidance Session for Computer Science and Software Engineering Students

Workshop on Smart Grid Technology – January 15, 2022

DHA Suffa University’s Department of Electrical Engineering and DSU’s IERC (Intl Education Resource Center) & PDC (Professional Development Center) organized a Workshop on Smart Grid technology on 15th Jan 2022 (Saturday) in DSU’s ELT, which was attended by Senior Executives  and Managers of Karachi Electric (KE).  The Guest speaker & trainer of the workshop was Prof. Dr. Tariq Masood who is the Vice President of Technical Operations at an Energy Utility company in USA and who is highly accomplished in the field of Smart Grids & Electrical power networks, holding a PhD from the University of Bath (UK).  During the workshop the guest speaker apprised participants from KE of the challenges and opportunities associated with Smart Grids, as well as the need for increased automation in the Power Grid and ensuring preventive maintenance of Power Grid assets. The workshop concluded with a group photo of the trainees with the Guest speaker.

DHA Suffa University’s Department of Electrical Engineering and DSU’s IERC & PDC organized a Workshop on Smart Grid technology which was attended by Semester 7 Electrical Engineering students of DSU.  The Guest speaker & trainer of the workshop was Prof. Dr. Tariq Masood who is the Vice President of Technical Operations at an Energy Utility company in USA and who is highly accomplished in the field of Smart Grids & Electrical power networks, holding a PhD from the University of Bath (UK).  During the workshop the guest speaker apprised DSU ‘s final year BE (Electrical Engineering) students of the challenges and opportunities associated with Smart Grids .  At the conclusion of the workshop, DSU’s Head of EE Department, Engr. Dr. Bizzat Hussain Zaidi presented the guest speaker with a memento.
