Session on “How HR Role Has Transformed In The COVID-19 Crisis”

A session on ‘How HR role has transformed in the COVID-19 crisis!’ by Mrs. Hubna Farhan – Head of HR & OD at Adamjee Textile Mills (Pvt.) Ltd. was held through Zoom on June 10th, 2021 was conducted by Ms. Tehseen Azhar – Director of Alumni Relations and Senior Lecturer (MS). The session was exclusively for the students of the Human Resource Management (HRM) course.

Mrs. Hubna Farhan being a seasoned HR Professional with over 14 years of experience in the manufacturing industry including all leading sectors like Pharmaceutical, FMCG and Textile shared her valuable knowledge and experiences with the students simply and interactively.

She described ‘change’ as a forced thing, as it’s in basic human nature to stay in their comfort zone. According to her, the Covid-19 crisis has turned out to be a lifestyle changer and is considered a new normal. She then described the two main challenges faced by the HR department, first one was to manage the operations of their department, and the second one was to create an integrated joint experience where everybody feels comfortable and valued so that the business processes flow smoothly and employees can perform their parts remotely.

Most of the organizations are now optimally utilizing the interactive HR module due to the crisis, as they have no other option but to go digital. This shift to digitalization has also drastically changed the work style of top management as there is less physical interaction with the employees. This saves them time which they can utilize more productively. Going digital has helped HR is reducing discrimination and politics at the workplace as the data & objectives are there for all relevant personal to see and evaluate the performance of the employees.

HR department workload is doubled in this Covid-19 crisis, as they first have to get the training themselves and then have to train the employees to do their respective tasks effectively. Apart from this, the HR department also has to make time to focus on the successful implementation of the transformation agenda of the whole organization.

According to her, the HR department now matters more than every other department and an HR professional is now considered a Super Man of the organization.

In the end, a Q/A session took place which the students utilized effectively by asking HR-related questions from Mrs. Hubna Farhan and gaining valuable knowledge from her insightful answers.

Business Launch Event

DHA Suffa University (DSU) facilitates students on the road to a successful career. Whether it be preparing for a job market or starting their own business. At DSU many students have launched their business through the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development (CEID).

For any startup, their business launch is one of the biggest milestones and the most exciting day for their business. Founders take all measures to make it memorable. Due to the covid-19 pandemic situation, holding a grand physical launch has become difficult. But at DHA Suffa University (DSU) we make things happen. Covid-19 did not stop our startups on their journey. Holding an exciting launch event was made possible by an alternate live online launch event.

On 12th June 2021, the Computer Science department at the DSU in collaboration with the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development (CEID) organized a launch event for eleven businesses initiated by students. This event marked a milestone in the journey of the new businesses and students very enthusiastically prepared for this big day. Their excitement and passion were clearly evident by their preparations. Invitations were extended not only to family & friends but guests from the industry were also invited.

Students joined the online event well on time where more than 100 guests joined in to cherish their big day. The event started with the first team launching their business with the name ‘Qafila’ selling an exclusive range of footwear followed by the next team launching their business with the name ‘Grand Motors’ dealing in used cars targeting customers who want quality but at an affordable price. Launching an exclusive range of gadgets for the youth ‘Midnight Enterprise’ brought in a stylish range of products like earphones, watches, and more. ‘My Choice’ launched an elegant range of kids wear whereas ‘Stunning Clothing’ launched a trendy clothing range for adults. Valuing the needs of women ‘Jewelry Palace’ introduced an elegant range of jewelry. Stationary is an item that is always needed by everyone and looking at this need ‘EcoTone’ launched their range of stationery products. Keeping in view the growing need for computer and accessories ‘E-Mart’ launched their product related to computer and accessories. Realizing the need for books and to cater to the affordability problem of the lower-income group ‘Used Books’ launched a business of buying and selling of used books. Catering to the taste buds ‘Vittels’ launched a range of scrumptious food items including shakes and frozen foods. Last but not least came in a different kind of business with the name ‘Dhoondo’. They did not offer any product rather they offered a service. Being computer science students they used their software development skills and developed a tool for the convenience of customers doing online shopping. Through this tool, customers can easily find the right product for the right price.

All these businesses displayed their products while giving superb presentations through lively videos and live chats. Some businesses attracted the attention of the audience by offering discounts on their products. The event not only served as a milestone for the businesses but the customers also experienced an amazing time. Throughout the session, the audience was engaged in talking to the businesses asking queries about the products, and even placed orders.

The event was one of a kind as being online it delivered all the flavors of an offline business launch event. All the teams received great applause from the guests.

Last but not least we would like to extend a big shout-out to our sponsor DJ Pizza for the support.
