Session on Suicide and its Prevention

Suicide is an ongoing problem that has been existing in the world since a very long time. This problem is most common amongst the younger lot. Unfortunately, suicide has become a taboo and is not talked about out in the open. To address this problem and make the students of DSU aware of the symptoms and preventions of suicide, the CSR department arranged a session on suicide and its prevention on the 6th of December 2019 in DSU Executive Lecture Theatre. The core objective of this session was to educate the youth about the signs and symptoms associated with suicidal thoughts and to assist them in making healthy decisions for such victims.

The seminar was conducted by psychologists from the Institute of Behavioral Sciences by Dr. A.Q Khan Centre – DOW University of Health Sciences, organized by the CSR Department.

Grooming Session

On December 04, 2019, Department of Career Services and Corporate Relations (CS&CR) in collaboration with Alumni Relations Department organized a Grooming Session for the Final Year Students of MS Department in the ELT of DHA Suffa University. The objective of organizing grooming session for final year MS students was to prepare them for appearing in job interviews successfully. The HR team of Quick Foods Industries, bestowed their presence as speakers for this session. The lead speaker was Bushra Arsalan, Manager HR, and Uzair Jawaid, Training Executive at Quick Food Industries Pvt Ltd. Following were the major topics discussed in the session:

*        Optimizing the use of LinkedIn and Networking Techniques

*        Personal branding

*        Interview skills

*        Resume building

The session was attended by 30+ final year students of MS Department. The participants actively took part in various activities conducted during the session in full zeal. The Department of CS&CR concluded the session by presenting a token of appreciation to the speaker. A goody bag was presented by Ms. Tehseen, Director of Alumni Relations, DSU to the speaker.

Seminar on “Be a Citizen of the World and Beyond”

On December 5th, 2019, the DSU Alumni Relations Department organized a seminar on “Be a Citizen of the World and Beyond”.

The speaker for the session was Mr. Ghazi – CEO, Founder and President, Sun Consulting. Sun was incorporated in Chicago in 1984 and started its immigration services in 1988, moved to Pakistan in 1991. Since 1988 Sun has assisted over 13,000 families and individuals to immigrate to Canada. Outside China, Sun is the most successful and largest immigration consultancy firm in the world. In addition to Canada, Sun offers immigration and student visa services in the USA and Citizenship services in Europe and Caribbean Islands. After careful research the very attractive terms, Sun offers its services to those who wish to become a Citizen of the World and Beyond.

Mr. Ghazi talked about job opportunities in Japan and what path the students or alumni can follow to get Japanese citizenship on base of student visa. The seminar helped all the students of the DSU especially final year and alumni for gaining employment opportunities in Japan. They also shared the details how they are preparing interested candidates at their office for this program and they have also certified Japanese government instructor for training. At the end, there was a Question/Answer session and participants showed their interest and registered for it.

Session on Anti-corruption

On November 25th, 2019, Character Building Society of DSU organized its first ever session of this semester on Anti-corruption. The sole purpose of the event was to innate the knowledge and to provide the exposure to the youth regarding the malpractices within our society related to corruption and the ways to prevent corruption using the fair means possible within the boundaries of law. Team CBS invited Ms. Jalees Fatima who became the first lady S.D.P.O of police and Mr. Wajih Uddin who is the former HOD of Islamic Studies & Arabic at Education Bay Academy and former Media Manager at Mercy Mission Pakistan.

Upon commencement of the program, the host introduced the speakers and invited them on stage to share what knowledge they wished to the audience in respect to the subject. Mr Wajihuddin along with his co-speaker Ms Jalees Fatima shared their sights beautifully and affectively.

Mr Wajihuddin introduced the forms of corruption, he also highlighted this matter with his Quranic knowledge, and let the audience know how to fight it. While Ms Jalees Fatima shared her experience in regards to fighting corruption prior her retirement and letting the audience have an insight on the life of a police officer.

The event concluded by a small talk from the Chairperson CBS and Registrar DSU, and providing shields as a token of appreciation to the guest speakers

The event proved to be a great success where CBS received positive feedbacks from the attendees.

Session ‘Key to Happiness’

Women Empowerment Society held an informative session ‘Key to Happiness’ on November 26th 2019. The session intended to assist the girls attain emotional and mental stability so that they can develop social skills to grow as a stronger individual. For this purpose Ms. Ayesha Zaka, a motivational speaker from Youthclub, was invited to enlighten us with her views and knowledge on the subject. The speaker discussed reasons why girls often face anxiety and depression and shared the 10 keys of happiness. In the end the speaker taught a few stress busting exercises that could be applied in daily routines. The primary message was that ‘happiness comes from the inside, all you need to do is strengthen your faith in yourself’. Overall the session proved to be a great success and we hope to continue this legacy in future events.

5th Session of Alumni Talk Series

The DSU Alumni Relations Department successfully organized the fifth session of Alumni Talk Series on 29th November, 2019 in which one of the prominent alumnus of the DHA Suffa University, Mr. Umair Hanif (ML Engineer at base-H technologies) was invited. He conducted the session on “From Student to a Professional! A Transformation!” and shared his experiences of how he started his career from the scratch and what were the problems he faced while entering into the job market. He also answered student’s Queries. He also shared tips and shared what the market needs and students should not make those mistakes while appearing for an interview. He tried to overcome the students first job interview fear by sharing how to be competitive, presentable and confident during interview. The session was attended by the students of all departments.
