QA Awareness Seminars for the Students of Electrical Engineering

In continuation with our practice, a series of quality assurance awareness seminars was conducted for the students of Electrical Engineering by Mr. Abdul Samad (ADQEC) during 2018-19. The seminars focused on familiarizing students with the IQA mechanism, HEC’s self-assessment criteria, ranking criteria and maximum scores for each criterion, self-assessment of programs, OBE system, feedback and survey forms, continuous improvement of quality (CQI) and outcomes of assessment. The seminars were kept interactive to encourage participation of students. The seminars concluded with question-and-answer sessions.

“Speak Out for Engineering Competition”

Speak Out for Engineering is a competition hosted by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. It is designed to help develop verbal and visual communication in explaining technical mechanical engineering related subjects.

This year, DHA Suffa University had the honor to host the local and regional heats of the Speak Out for Engineering competition. The top three local-qualifiers from institutions including DSU, NUST-PNEC, NED, and HUBCO competed at the regional event.

Hajra Ijaz Mirza, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at DSU, managed to secure the first position in the regional event. With this victory, Hajra had qualified to participate in the National heat, where qualifiers from the northern and southern regions had gathered to compete. Hajra, along with the participants from NED, NUST-PNEC, NUST Islamabad, and UET Taxila had witnessed the event.

It gives us immense pleasure to share that Hajra from DHA Suffa University secured the Runner-up position in the competition, along with a cash prize.

Session on “Innovate to Celebrate”

An engaging session was organized by Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development (CEID) at DHA Suffa University on the topic of “Innovate to Celebrate”. The speaker, Mr. Oskar Andermo (Regional Vice President – Middle East at HelmsBriscoe) who is a prominent Businessman, Strategist, Certified mental trainer, and an inspiring Professional speaker.

The session primarily focused on the promotion of talent, innovation and creativity in any business ecosystem. It was a highly interactive and lively session where Mr. Oskar engaged the audience by connecting his talk with real world examples. The speaker very intriguingly discussed with the audience on how to increase brand awareness and reputation, and how to spread the excitement to other business areas like employees, customers, investors. It was a very interesting session and helped students to explore new knowledge avenues.

Mr. Zahid Participates in 2nd International Conference on QA in Higher Education

The Pakistan Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (PNQAHE) organized the 2nd International Conference on Quality Assurance in Higher Education from April 23 to 25, 2019 at University of Education (UoE), Lahore. The conference, organized in collaboration with HEC and Khyber Medical University (KMU), was attended by QEC representatives of higher education institutions and leading scholars, researchers and educationists from across the world. Participants included Dr. Selva Staub from Turkey, Asst. Prof. Donald Staub from Turkey, Prof. Kethamonie Naidoo from South Africa, Dr. Bassam Al Hamad from Bahrain, Dr. Khalid Azim Khan from Saudi Arabia and Dr. Bahar Gun from Turkey.

The first day of the conference was reserved for pre-conference workshops on a range of topics pertaining to quality assurance. Mr. Zahid Hussain (ADQEC, DHA Suffa University) participated in workshops titled “Strategic Planning for Your Organization” and “KPIs and Benchmarking – Improving the Performance of HEIs”.

At the inaugural session on the second day, Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Arshad Javaid (Vice Chancellor, KMU) and Guest of Honour Prof. Dr. Shafique-ur-Rehman (Adviser of Quality Assurance, Higher Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) emphasized the role of PNQAHE in improving the education standards with the joint effort of QECs and discussed initiatives that were in the pipeline to enhance the quality of education in Pakistan. Over 50 research papers were presented at the conference and keynote speeches were delivered by the speakers. In the closing ceremony, Mr. Riaz Ahmed Qureshi (former advisor to the Quality Assurance Department of the HEC) highlighted the background of quality assurance of the HEC and its scope to internationalize programs. He appreciated the establishment of PNQAHE and hoped the conference would provide a strong base to introduce quality culture in the higher education sector.

Session on “Entrepreneurial Mindset”

A talk was arranged by Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Development (CEID) at DHA Suffa University on the topic of “Entrepreneurial Mindset”. The speaker, Mr. Khurram Mujtaba (CEO of Jump Start Pakistan and Moftak Solution) who is a Visionary Serial Entrepreneur, Investor, and a prominent Strategist, discussed key points of being a successful entrepreneur, to have an entrepreneurial mindset and described his experience to students on how his whole journey started. Mr. Khurram also motivated students to be a leader, to control and determine their own destiny. It was a very interesting event, and concluded with an interactive Q&A session.

Seminar on “Building Digital Marketing Strategy for Startups”

On May 20th, 2019, The Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation Development (CEID) at DHA Suffa University organized a seminar on “Building Digital Marketing Strategy for Startups”. The speaker, Mr. Safeer – e – Hussain, himself is Director Operations of ‘Digital Eggheads’ which is a renowned digital marketing agency. Mr. Hussain has a strong background on digital marketing and has experience of managing digital strategies for many local and international organizations. The aim of this event was to provide a practical insight into the marketing aspects for young startups via digital platform, and discuss tools that would help improve their digital footprint in the market. The speaker took a step by step approach for developing a digital strategy for young startups and relating the talk with various local and international examples. The students enjoyed the talk and resulted in an interactive lively session.
