Team Zarrar Wins

Team Zarrar DHA Suffa University, won Propellair 2018 in both Engine and Electric Categories. The Event was organized by iMechE NED Chapter inviting teams to design, build and fly RC Aircrafts to perform two specific missions including barrel roll, hammerhead and Immelmann maneuvers and dropping of payload. A total of 20 teams from different universities of Karachi and Hyderabad participated in the event including NED, PNEC, NUST, Mehran University and Nazir Hussain University.
The team participated in both Engine and Electric power categories of RC Aircrafts with team names of Aflatoon and Chensi. Both teams stood as winners in respective categories by successfully performing both missions of aerobatic maneuvers and payload drop with professional excellence.
Team Zarrar DHA Suffa University is the only team in Pakistan having earned major recognition and awards in all national aerospace competitions.. In 2018 it was the only team in the UAS Challenge UK that cleared technical inspections within 60 seconds.

University of Hertfordshire UK

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between DHA Suffa University and the University of Hertfordshire UK at Serena Hotel, Islamabad, on April 16, 2018. At the MoU signing ceremony, DHA Suffa University was represented by its Dean EAS, Prof. Dr. Johar Khurshid Farooqi, while the University of Hertfordshire was represented by its Pro Vice-Chancellor (Business and International Development), Mrs. Julie Newlan. Delegates at the ceremony included Mr. Stuart Smith and Mr. Sayaz Miah from the University of Hertfordshire’s International Office. As per this MoU, DHA Suffa University and the University of Hertfordshire have agreed to explore possibilities of academic cooperation through joint degree programs, student and faculty exchange, faculty development as well as knowledge and research sharing in various academic disciplines.

IMechE UAS Challenge UK

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), a renowned international engineering society, organized the annual Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Challenge from June 17 to 19, 2018 at Snowdonia Aerospace Center, Llanbedr, Wales, and UK. The competition involved design, construction, development and demonstration of an autonomous and intelligent UAS, capable of carrying out a humanitarian aid mission. DHA Suffa University’s Team Zarrar became the first team from Pakistan and South Asia to receive certification for both rotary and fixed-wing autonomous flights and to participate for the second consecutive year in this prestigious competition. The team, led by faculty advisors from departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, designed, fabricated and flew an automated state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), equipped with a programmable autopilot, on-board camera and computer-based ground target recognition. Team Zarrar received immense recognition on achieving the fastest record of 54 seconds in completing UAS Scrutiny Phase. The team also secured highest score in Technical Report of the UAS Challenge.

International Arduino Day 2018

The Electrical Engineering Department of DHA Suffa University celebrated International Arduino Day on May 10, 2018. The objective of this event, organized by Engr. Sara Noor and Engr. Haris Zikrur Rehman, was to motivate students to showcase their talents by designing innovative projects using Arduino. Arduino controller is a vital component of nearly all the engineering prototypes that can be developed into commercial products, creating new pathways for students to select their final year projects. This event provided a platform to people from academia and industry to share their experiences and guide future engineers, thus, bridging the gap between both domains.

Participates in Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2018

Shell Eco-Marathon is an international competition that challenges students to produce innovative, fuel-efficient vehicles and compete against teams from around the world to achieve maximum fuel economy. Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2018 was held at Changi Exhibition Center Singapore from March 7 to 11, 2018.
Team DSU Shell Eco-Marathon officially represented DHA Suffa University in this prestigious competition. The team comprised of 9 undergraduate students from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and was guided by Engr. Safa Sattar and Engr. Najiullah Hussaini. In its debut participation at Shell Eco-Marathon Asia, Team DSU passed all technical inspections within a day, which is a testament to the team’s exemplary level of preparation and professionalism.
As teams assembled on track, a number of experienced teams struggled to register valid runs, while Team DSU successfully performed two valid runs in three attempts. The team officially registered a fuel economy figure of 51 km/l, thereby, earning the unique honor of becoming one of the two teams from Pakistan to post valid fuel economy figures (Urban Concept Category) on the leader-board.
Team DSU’s performance at Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2018 marks the successful culmination of a grueling first year for the team and represents the pursuit of excellence that is the hallmark of DHA Suffa University.
Team DSU achieved all its targets for the year 2018 and aims to compete with leading teams from around the world through ground-breaking innovations and continuous improvements in design, analysis and manufacturing of the vehicle.
